WELCOME TO TIDEVIEW

New server, or moving and restoring?

If you have a TideView backup, restore it before adding your folders. Users, history and settings come with you.

Normal reinstall keeps existing data. Restoring is only needed to move or recover it.

STEP 1 OF 6

Name your TideView server

Choose a name you will recognize on your TV and phone. TideView will automatically use a compatible graphics processor when one is available.

STEP 2 OF 6

Choose your media folders

Add the folders TideView should index for movies and TV shows. TideView reads the files, builds metadata as it scans, and keeps your media folders untouched.

STEP 3 OF 6

Add Live TV

Connect a supported network tuner or a TV playlist. You can skip this step if you only use personal media.

GUIDE DATA

TideView Guide

Enter your ZIP code, then choose your guide lineups.

Authorized sources only. TideView does not supply channels, playlists, decryption, or content-protection bypass tools.

STEP 4 OF 6

Add music if you have it

Music is optional. When present, TideView automatically matches albums and artists, scans for new files incrementally, and keeps playback handoff tied to the current TideView user.

STEP 5 OF 6

Transfer watch history

If you already use Plex, TideView can copy profile watch and resume history. This is optional.

P
Checking Plex...Plex is used only for migration and compatibility.
What happens before metadata is finished?TideView imports every watched or resume record it can match right now and safely keeps the rest pending. As library scans and metadata matches finish, TideView retries the pending records automatically and fills watched/resume history into newly matched titles.

STEP 6 OF 6

Your server is ready

Finish setup to open TideView Control. You can add or change optional features later.

INPUTS

TV & HDMI sources

HDHomeRun tuners

Discoverable OTA and cable-network tuner hardware, including compatible Prime models.

M3U sources

Add an authorized M3U URL, matching XMLTV URL, and simultaneous-stream limit together.

TideView does not include or endorse playlist providers. You are responsible for permission to access every added stream and guide listing.

Custom network tuners

Connect a streaming box, camera, or game console through a compatible encoder. Tested only on the UNISHEEN BM1000H.

Factory units must be prepared one at a timeConnect ONE encoder, change both its IP address and MAC address to unique values, select Save in the encoder settings, reboot that encoder, and confirm its stream returns before connecting the next unit. The MAC saved in TideView is inventory only and cannot resolve a duplicate MAC on the LAN.

USB capture cards Advanced

Higher-GPU fallback: raw HDMI capture depends on local USB drivers and requires server-side encoding.

RECOMMENDED

One-click Direct HTTPS

TideView automates the free hostname, router connection, firewall, and encrypted HTTPS gateway.

Everything is handled by TideView
Private TideView hostnameCreated automatically with no account, domain purchase, address, or token to enter.Direct encrypted connectionVideo travels directly between the device and this server over HTTPS.
TideView will try automatic router setup first. If that is unavailable, it will show the exact two forwarding rules.
Connect a new deviceAfter setup, generate one private six-digit code for Roku, Android phone, or Android TV.
Enter the six digits, choose a profile, and use its optional PIN if enabled.

REMOTE VIDEO QUALITY

DATA PROTECTION

Backup & Restore

One verified file for moving to another PC or recovering a server. Manage these private files on the server computer; your actual media stays separate.

AUTOMATIC BACKUPSLoadingEvery 3 days
LAST VERIFIED BACKUPNoneNo backup created yet
NEXT BACKUPLoadingRuns without scanning media folders
RESTORE POINTS0Keeping 3 copies

Automatic protection

The default folder is under Windows shared application data, outside the TideView program and live data folders.

Checksummed
Always includedServer settings, users and avatars, watch and resume history, favorites, playlists, library folder setup, channel/Live TV configuration and DVR schedules. Actual movies, shows, music, recordings and encrypted photo-vault contents are not included.
Backups are verified with SHA-256 checksums before TideView keeps them.

Backups contain private user information and protected settings. Keep the file private. Unencrypted backups are not password protected; older encrypted backups still need their original password.

Google Drive — optional second copy

Your verified local backup is kept first. Google Drive is a separate off-PC copy, not a replacement for local backups.

Not connected
Checking Google Drive backup availability...

No cloud backup verified yet.

A Drive copy counts as protected only after verification. If Google Drive is full, offline or disconnected, the local backup remains safe and the cloud copy reports its own status.

User photo backup storage

One ongoing encrypted photo backup per user; new photos and videos are added to the same vault. Vault contents stay separate from server restore points. The owner can move or delete ciphertext, but cannot open its contents.

What TideView protects

The library catalog and matched metadata are included so metadata corruption can be recovered without rebuilding everything.

Core dataCompatible server settings, channel configuration, users and profile pictures, encryption keys, watch history, DVR schedules, playlists, saved collections, preferences, and library folder identities. A new PC must activate and reconnect machine-specific credentials, remote access, and device sessions.
Library dataNative catalog and its current database, metadata matches, credits, user library state, saved intro markers, music preferences and recommendation history, and problem reports.
Photo backups stay separateEncrypted photo and video vault contents are not copied into server restore points or portable backups. Keep the vault folder when moving or recovering photo backups.
Rebuilt insteadResized image and provider caches, trailers, browser audio, captions, intro fingerprints, transcodes, live buffers, and logs. Supported original artwork can be included using the option above.
Moving or recoveringNew automatic backups and Move to another PC exports use the same portable format. Restore a backup verifies the file, reviews its contents and helps reconnect folders when drive letters change. Older ZIP files use compatible recovery; machine-specific state is never cloned to a new PC.
After a moveActivate the new computer and reconnect devices, hardware or credentials that cannot safely transfer. Keep media drives and encrypted photo-vault folders separately; missing folders do not erase saved history.
Software versionsInstallers remain separate from data backups. The consumer updater will retain signed versions and create a verified pre-update backup before switching software.

Verified restore points

Automatic backups retain the configured number of restore points. Move to another PC exports are kept separately. Download a file and select it during setup on the replacement PC.
